On March 19, CODE^SHIFT will be hosting a book publishing workshop led by Dr. David Oh, titled Book Publishing: Tips on How to Choose a Press and How to Get it to Notice You. The event will cover tips and strategies for publishing research in books.
Through this informal talk, participants can expect to learn how to make their work -- and themselves -- desirable to the correct press. The event will cover methods for choosing a press, commercial and university presses, elements presses are looking for, book proposal writing, and methods for adapting a dissertation.
Dr. Oh, a CODE^SHIFT faculty affiliate, is a 3-time book author and a 2-time book editor. He is an Associate Professor in the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. He joined the school's Communications Department and CODE^SHIFT in Spring 2024. He earned a Ph.D. in mass communications in 2007 from the Newhouse School.
He writes about Asian/American representation in U.S. media culture, representations of alterity in Korean media culture, and transnational audience reception of Korean media. Dr. Oh authored Second-Generation Korean American Adolescent Identity and Media: Diasporic Identifications (Lexington, 2015), Whitewashing the Movies: White Subjectivity and Asian Erasure in U.S. Film Culture (Rutgers University Press, 2022), and Navigating White News: Asian American Journalists at Work (Rutgers University Press, 2023). He has also published nearly forty journal articles and ten book chapters.
